24 things to do in 24 hours
By Maggie Beidelman
12 a.m. Invite your Community Facilitator to a dance party in your room to celebrate the new day.
1 a.m. Hit up Jack-in-the-Box's 24-hour drive-through, located at 911 El Camino Real, for those much needed twice-fried calories to keep you soberingly greasy during one of the peak active hours at Santa Clara University.
2 a.m. Grab a few energy drinks and study snacks at Safeway before it closes (at 2 a.m.) to continue your nocturnal obsession of late-night study sessions.
3 a.m. Find a fellow insomniac with wheels and risk Highway 17 (endearingly known as one of the most dangerous highways in the state) to get to Santa Cruz. Then, break onto the beach with the wild abandon of the most liberated hippie.
4 a.m. Appreciate the recurrent enthusiasm of infomercials (i.e. Proactive and Bowflex Home Gyms, two personal favorites). Or watch a recently released movie on the University's idyllic LINC TV system.
5 a.m. Move all of your passed-out roommate's personal belongings into the community bathroom, carefully placing them exactly how they were setup in what is now your spacious single.
6 a.m. Go for a refreshing morning run in the quiet solitude one does not often find on campus.
7 a.m. Catch a panoramic view of the sunrise on the eleventh floor of Swig.
8 a.m. If you are fortunate enough to have an 8 a.m. class, skip it.
9 a.m. Savor the celebrated Benson breakfast burrito at Market Square.
10 a.m. Fly a kite in Mission Gardens.
11 a.m. Visit the de Saisset Museum, open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Tuesday-Sunday), and its Spring exhibits: "Miniature Worlds: Art from India," "Sacred Images: Deities and Marriages in Mithila Paintings," Unleash Imagination: ArtsConnect: Arts Council Silicon Valley," and "The Art of Kim Jung Hwa."
12 p.m. Experience live music from all over the world at a Music at Noon event in the Recital Hall of the Music and Dance building; enjoy free food and get smart at a social justice lecture, hosted by the Law school.
1 p.m. Bask in the glory of California sunshine at your nearest lawn. Toss around a Frisbee. Play soccer on Bellomy Field. Draw a giant hopscotch in the Free Speech Zone between the bookstore and the Multicultural Center and invite your coolest friends to play.
2 p.m. Go for an afternoon dip in Malley Pool.
3 p.m. Play sand volleyball on the court behind Dunne Residence Hall.
4 p.m. People-watch at Valley Fair mall, giving yourself two points every time you see a Coach bag and twenty points every time you see a group of guys debating t-shirt colors.
5 p.m. Slip into the empty Mission Church for a moment of reflection in possibly the only silent on-campus location.
6 p.m. Have a barbecue. Enough said.
7 p.m. Grab a blanket and a friend and watch the sunset in Mission Gardens, which will happen around 7:30 p.m.
8 p.m. Check out the list of music shows, plays and other events in the Bay Area at www.ticketmaster.com and hit up a venue.
9 p.m. Rent a movie from Safeway's $1.50 movie rental station at the front of the store. Credit/debit cards only.
10 p.m. Challenge your arch enemy to a game of pool at the Bronco. Learn how to play first.
11 p.m. Rent a projector from media services and play a movie in the common area of your dorm or house. Invite less-vocally opinionated people.
