Women’s Basketball Loses Close Game to Arizona State

Santa Clara University Women’s Basketball (3-2) lost 77-82 to Big 12 team Arizona State University (4-0) in the Leavey Center on Sunday after attempting a second-half comeback. 

At the half, Santa Clara was down 37-50.

The Broncos outscored ASU in the second half 40-13. 

With 3:57 left on the clock, Ava Schmidt ’27 scored a layup to tie the game at 70 points. Free throws by McKinna Brackens and Last-Tear Poa and two made jump shots sealed the game for the Sun Devils.  

Guard Maia Jones ’26 led the Broncos in scoring with 20 points. Grad guard Ashley Hawkins followed closely behind with 18 points and six assists. 

The Broncos’ next game is on Wednesday at San Diego State University.
