AUDIOCRUSH: New band creates best sound around
By Cameron Collins
If you are part of the music scene in the Bay Area, and you haven't been locked up in a soundproof booth with no windows and no radio for the past six months, then you already know about arguably the best band around these days: Audiocrush.
Audiocrush is a "four-piece 'Eclectic' indie/post - punk band based in Santa Cruz" with former members of both Fury 66 and Good Riddance.
The group's performances on two dates of this summer's Warped Tour cemented a strong fan base for them and wide respect throughout the music industry.
Although their album just came out this past Thursday, their demo has already left a strong imprint on the local music scene and has dominated the airwaves on Santa Clara's own KSCU 103.3 FM.
You cannot ask for much more in a band these days than Audiocrush. Their songs are laced with emotion and driven by the bass of Troy Cope and the drums of the extraordinary Rich McDermott.
Add in the dual attack of guitarists/vocalists Joe Clements and Jen Roye and you get a combination that is impossible to beat.
At times the music is almost hypnotic, as the thrashing guitars intertwine with the melodic vocals creating an angst-ridden masterpiece that speaks to even the most well adjusted of individuals.
For this reason, Audiocrush has been likened to Emo bands such as Knapsack and Strike Anywhere, and yet such comparisons fall short. Soon it will be other bands being likened to Audiocrush.
On a personal note, having interacted with the band on several occasions, I haven't met a nicer bunch of people in a band. They are hard working and know what needs to be done in order to be successful.
But remember all you guys out there, Jen may be the Punk Rock Goddess, but she is a person too ... just ask Pinky! According to the band members themselves, "Audiocrush has well-seasoned experience behind them, with immediate plans to crush every town on the West Coast."
I suggest you help them on their crusade and head out to the Los Gatos Outhouse on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7p.m. to check out the band along with the Honor System and Short Round.
