Men's cross country placed second at the Willamette Invitational last Saturday in Salem, Ore.

The team finished with a total of 39 points in the 8,000-meter race, 14 points behind first-place Portland. The Broncos received strong performances from senior Charlie Brenneman, who finished 27th with a time of 25:09.59, and sophomore Michael Helms, who placed 28th with a time of 25:10.33. The team will next be in action this Saturday when they take part in the Mills Invitational held in Oakland.

Soccer players honored Senior forward Mandy Clemens and men's sophomore defender Keith Burden were both honored this week as the West Coast Conference soccer players of the week.Clemens had two goals and five assists in 9-0 wins over Evansville and Alabama. Burden, part of a defense that has yielded only two goals this season, kicked the game-winning goal in the Broncos' 2-1 win over Clemson Saturday.

Looking backA 10-year reunion will be held on Oct. 16 for the 1989 men's soccer team, one of that season's national co-champions. It was the first, and to this point only, national championship for any team in Santa Clara history. Players and coaches from the team are expected to be on hand. Malley dedicationThe Pat Malley Fitness and Recreation Center will be dedicated this Friday in front of friends, family and former players of the beloved football coach. Former 49er Brent Jones is among the alumni expected to attend.
