MEN'S SOCCER

Santa Clara 2, SJSU 0

In the third match-up of the school year between the two Rivalry Series teams, the Broncos got their second consecutive shutout last Thursday night at Spartan Stadium. Senior forward Ryan Wolfe scored on a low shot off a pass from Ted Kristensson in the 33rd minute for his first goal of the season. Later in the 70th minute, junior forward Keith DeVey took addantage of an opportunity after a header by Jide Ogunbyi crossed over into the goal box. The goal was DeVey's team-leading sixth of the season.

Santa Clara 3, Saint Mary's 2 (OT)

After Saint Mary's scored in the 22nd minute, National and West Coast Conference Player of the Week Erik Ustruck found the lower left corner of the goal on a pass only two minutes later from Hector Guzman. Right after the half, senior forward Kelechi Igwe collected a cross from Ustruck after it deflected off an opposing defender and put it in the goal. About 15 minutes before the end of the second half, Saint Mary's was able to sneak one by senior goalkeeper Kevin Sweeney to even the game at 2-2. In overtime, Igwe passed to junior All-American midfielder Medhi Ballouchy near the back post, who was able to put not only the goal away, but also the first conference game for the No. 5 Broncos.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Stanford 1, Santa Clara 0

The Bronco women lost a hard-fought match at Maloney Field Friday night in only their second loss of the season. In the 24th minute, Stanford's Rachel Buehler punched a shot off a free kick past Santa Clara's junior goalkeeper Julie Ryder to go up one-nil. The score would remain the same throughout the match even after severe pressure in the Stanford box from Tiffany Roberts, Tina Estrada and Brittany Klein. Coach Jerry Smith remarked after the game that the match had a playoff atmosphere to it as there were only six combined shots by both teams in the second half.
