WOMEN'S

SOCCER

Santa Clara 2,

In head coach Jerry Smith's 300th win, the Broncos polished off the Billikens by a final score of 2-1. Sophomore Meagan Snell was able to score off a rebounded free kick from Tina Estrada in the 15th minute. In her first goal of the year, sophomore Brittany Klein accepted a pass from Snell to seal the win in the 35th minute.

Santa Clara 2, Cal Poly 0

Smith called his movement of sophomore Jordan Angeli from the back field to forward an "experiment," but Angeli proved her worth in this shutout of the Mustangs on Sunday afternoon. The first goal was a header which came off of a pass in the 23rd minute from freshman midfielder Amanda Poach right into the back of the net. For almost the rest of the game, a defensive battle broke out until the 86th minute when Angeli found a pass from junior Tiffany Roberts. Goalkeeper Julie Ryder recorded her third shutout of the season.

MEN'S SOCCER

Santa Clara 3, FIU 0

The Santa Clara men came up strong on Friday night in Buck Shaw Stadium. Senior Hector Guzman, who was starting in place of senior Kelechi Igwe, who received a red card at Cal on Sunday, found the opposing goal on a header from junior midfielder Medhi Ballouchy. Eight minutes later, sophomore Peter Lowry scored on a penalty kick after an FIU defender was called for a hand ball in the 26th minute. The Bronco hat trick was confirmed in the 33rd minute when WCC Player of the Week Jide Ogunbiyi headed in a pass from senior Jeff Scott.

MEN'S WATER POLO

Santa Clara 16,

Cal-Luth. 8

Junior Whit Gilfillan and sophomore Chris Parolin led the Broncos with three goals apiece in front of a large crowd at the Leavey Pool. Santa Clara jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Slugfest Classic

In a two day affair at the University of California at Santa Cruz, the Broncos posted two wins and two losses over the course of the tournament. On Saturday, the water polo team split its pair of matches with a win against Whittier College (9-5) and a loss against UC San Diego (12-5). In Saturday's matches, the Broncos again went 1-1 with a victory against Pomona-Pitzer (10-9) and a defeat earlier in the day at the hands of the Air Force Academy.

VOLLEYBALL

Brown Tourney

This past weekend in Providence, Rhode Island, the Lady Broncos recorded three wins and three shutouts, with a final score of 3-0 in each game of the tournament. Santa Clara knocked off Manhattan and Brown on Friday, and Stony Brook on Saturday.

In the first match-up of the Santa Clara and San Jose State annual Rivalry Series, the Broncos were able to sweep the Spartans without much trouble. Freshman Brittany Lowe recorded 17 kills on the night while star senior Cassie Perret added 14. Sophomore Anna Cmaylo had an amazing performance on Tuesday night with a .688 hitting percentage. The Spartans kept it close scoring at least 20 points in each game, but Santa Clara was able to run away with the victory in the end.
