Santa Clara 6, Stanford 3

The Broncos scored three runs in the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie and come away with a 6-3 victory against Stanford at Sunken Diamond on Tuesday.

After Stanford tied the game scoring two runs in the seventh, the Broncos countered in the next inning behind the bat of catcher Tommy Medica, who drove in the winning run with a one out single.

The Cardinals brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth with runners at the corners, but Stanford's Sean Ratliff hit a line drive that looked to be heading through the right side of the infield into pinch runner Wande Olabisi, forcing Olabisi out and ending the Stanford rally.

Designated hitter Carl Bacon, went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs for the Broncos, and both left fielder Evan LeBlanc and right fielder Brady Fuerst picked up a pair of hits.

Reliever Justin Kuehn picked up the winning, pitching 2 2/3 innings of relief after starter Sean O'Neill pitched six innings in the no-decision.
