Volleyball
Santa Clara 3, Pepperdine 0
The Broncos got back on the winning track against the Waves with a clean, three-game sweep. Junior Anna Cmaylo recorded 19 kills and hit at a .630 percentage. Kim McGiven had a double double with 13 kills and 11 digs and Caroline Walters had 19 digs of her own. The win brought the Broncos back to .500 in West Coast Conference play and was especially important after getting swept by Loyola Marymount.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Santa Clara 2, San Diego 0
The women's soccer team started off WCC play with a win as they defeated the visiting Toreros 2-0 last Sunday. Brittany Klein and Amanda Poach provided the scoring for the Broncos. Klein's goal came in the 78th minute off of a set piece. Poach added the Broncos' second tally with under a minute to go, which all but sealed the win for the home team. The Toreros had their opportunities, but nothing materialized as goalkeeper Meagan McCray recorded her tenth shutout of the season.
MEN'S SOCCER
Santa Clara 0, Gonzaga 0
Despite out-shooting the Bulldogs 17-8 and holding the majority of possession, the Bronco men's soccer team could only pick up a tie in their visit to Spokane. The game was especially important to a Bronco team that lost to Gonzaga last season, which ultimately cost them the WCC title. Joseph Buttitta was stout in goal for his fourth shutout of the season but the offense couldn't get anything going. Perhaps the best opportunity came when freshman Jeff Cosgriff fired a shot on net that was originally stopped, but slowly trickled towards the goal line. The Bulldog keeper recovered in time, however, and prevented the scoring chance.
Santa Clara 2, Portland 1
The Broncos rebounded from their tie Friday night with a victory over the host Pilots. The Broncos again found themselves in a 0-0 knot at halftime, but this time they prevailed after getting second half goals from Matt Hatzke and Sean Danzeiser.
