Cal Fresh needs improvements
By Melissa Peterson
Who knew that the Cal Fresh and Market Express changes would bring so much trouble? Don't get me wrong, it's great to see Cal Fresh open for more hours, and I realize there is no way Aramark can respond to the demands of the entire student population. This is not to say that issues cannot be addressed, however. In talking with other students, I've come up with some suggestions for Aramark to take one step closer to the food utopia:
- The crowd situation has got to be resolved. The shear amount of people trying to get their lunch after the two o'clock classes end demands that something be done to organize those attempting to wait in line. My suggestion? Find some sticker footprints to adhere to the ground. "Stand on the red feet for the burrito line, the yellow feet for the grill," and so forth.
- The late-night Cal Fresh fare is a welcome addition to Benson's repertoire, one long overdue to students' eating options. When you finally make time for dinner around 8 p.m., it's great to be able to head down to Cal Fresh and have a choice of real food. The problem? That "real" food is full of grease, with no truly healthy options available. Gardenburgers are a start, but what about bringing back the late-night sandwich option? We may be college students, but we don't always want to eat hamburgers and pizza.
- Continuing with the healthy theme, what ever happened to the mixed salads at lunchtime? This option seems to have been a popular one among students, and the addition of another healthy food item would certainly be welcomed. The station can go where the second Mexican food stand sits right now; the second part never seems to be in use anyway.Okay, Aramark, it's up to you now. Make it great.
