Campaign hits $204 million

School officials announced earlier this week that the $350 million fund raising campaign has surpassed the $200 million mark.
"We have our work cut out for us to get to $350 million by June 2006, but 2003 was a much better year for the economy and it's beginning to show some positive impact on people making larger gifts," said Vice President for University Relations Percy Purcell. Ã
In total, $204 million has been raised for the campaign designed to raise money for scholarships, academic programming as well as a new business school and state-of-the-art library.
The largest recent donation came from Lorry Lokey, who committed to donating a total of $20 million to Santa Clara, according to Purcell.
A large portion of the money raised since the campaign began in October 2002 has been dedicated to scholarships, according to Purcell. Out of the entire $350 million Santa Clara hopes to raise by June 2006, $100 million of that will be allotted toward scholarships.
The next largest expense is the new library, which will cost $82 million to build, $24.5 million of which has been raised already, according to Purcell. Of the $40 million goal for the business school, $19.5 million has been raised.
