Two women's events scheduled for Tuesday
The founding president of the Global Fund for Women, Anne Murray, will offer practical wisdom on affecting positive social change in a presentation this Tuesday.
Following her presentation, Murray will host an open dialogue discussion centered around implementing her practical frameworks into one's daily routine.
Originally from New Zealand, Murray was one of the 1,000 women nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005. Today, Murray teaches a course on international women's health and human rights at Stanford University, and she actively serves on several councils and boards for non-profit organziations, such as the African Women's Development Fund.
"Global problems seem insurmountable; poverty, injustice, and environmental decay demand attention. Nevertheless, hope persists. The beginning of change is the recognition that things can be different," said Murray in her book on leading and managing for positive change, which will be available for purchase and signing on Tuesday.
The event, sponsored by the Leavey School of Business, begins at 4:30 p.m. in the California Mission Room of Benson Center. Refreshments will be provided and admission is free for students and faculty, but attendees must pre-register at www.scu.edu/business/gwin/registration/index.cfm.
The same day, religious studies professor Ana Maria Pineda and junior theater arts major Yha' Mourhia Wright will host the Women of Color Network Welcome Reception at 5 p.m. in Benson Parlors.
Sponsored by the Multicultural Learning Office and the women's and gender studies department, the event will tackle the theme: "No Woman is an Island: Community Building Through Leadership."
