Dean of business school to step down
Barry Posner, dean of the Leavey School of Business, has announced that next year will be his last year as dean.
He will take a one-year sabbatical and return for the 2010-11 school year as a professor of leadership in the business school.
During Posner's 11-year tenure, the business school has received recognition for both the undergraduate and graduate programs that are offered.
Posner's career at Santa Clara began in 1976. He was hired as a professor of management, and has also worked as associate dean of graduate programs.
He also served as a managing partner of the executive development center, a program that helps students develop leadership skills.
The provost's office will form a search committee made up of faculty and administrators to find his replacement. The committee will present a list of candidates to the provost, who will work with the president to choose the new dean.
University to switch to electronic time entry for student employees
The new time-entry system for student employees will begin with the pay period that starts June 16. All employees will record their hours through eCampus, as opposed to the paper timesheets that were used before.
According to a campus-wide e-mail sent by Human Resources, about 6,000 timesheets are printed every two weeks to process pay for students and staff. Electronic time entry will save the university money in printing and paper costs.
Also, the paper process takes longer than the electronic method. HR is forced to send out timesheets early, sometimes forcing employees to project their hours for the rest of the week. The electronic process will be more efficient this way, the e-mail said.
HR will be offering several workshops over the next few weeks to help familiarize employees with the new process.
