Social Entrepreneurship Network meets with MBA students from Oxford University

This past Wednesday, April 14, members of the recently formed Social Entrepreneurship Network at Santa Clara met with a group of MBA students from Oxford University to discuss social entrepreneurship and related matters.

The students from Oxford University were in the area for a program called Oxford Comes to Silicon Valley. They have been visiting companies such as Intel, Linked In and Google to learn more about each corporation and the technology industry in general.

On Wednesday, the group from Oxford came to Santa Clara to listen to a speaker who had been brought in by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. After they had heard the speaker, they met with a few members of the Social Entrepreneurship Network and had a discussion with them.

The conversation topics varied; they conversed about increasing the club's profile at Santa Clara; setting up a microfinance fund at Santa Clara; personal business experiences and endeavors; and an exclusive world business summit.

Much of the discussion focused around the central, guiding topic of social entrepreneurship, a subject in which many of the MBA students were majoring.

The group of students from Oxford University consisted of 30 members, all of whom hailed from across the globe. Within this small group were people from England, Greece, the United States and other nations.

The Social Entrepreneurship Network is a student run organization that is a branch off of the Santa Clara Entrepreneurship Organization. It was formed just this past quarter by its now co-presidents, Alexis Babb and Claire Brubaker.

Last weekend's Tunnel of Oppression offers solution of hope

Tunnel of Oppression came to an end on Tuesday after bringing together different organizations on campus to help organize the event.

The event was on display Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in the Benson Parlors.

The purpose of the walk-through exhibit is to increase understanding of the numerous forms of oppression people suffer from, locally and globally. Numerous student organizations partner together in order to educate the Santa Clara community about social injustice.

This year's theme for the display was "hope is coming."
