University health care waivers available online
Students who are not planning on being covered by the university's health insurance plan can now begin to fill out a health insurance waiver on the Santa Clara Web site.
The online health waiver must ensure the student's individual health care plan.
The university requires all undergraduate students, as well as F-1 visa students, to be covered by health care.
If students do not complete the online waiver form by the deadline date before the fall, they will be automatically enrolled in the university health care plan. The university health care plan is $1,440 dollars for the 2008-2009 plan. The deadline to fill out a waiver is Sept. 8, 2008.
Administrators to test Connect-Ed's accuracy
University administrators will be conducting a test today of the campus alert system Connect-Ed.
Subscribers will be receiving a text message on his or her cell phone, a voicemail on the other phone numbers entered into the system, and up to two e-mails.
The test will simulate an actual emergency situation in which the system would need to be activated, and will be used to gauge the effectiveness of the system and the accuracy of user information in the database.
Santa Clara to hold CPR certification course
The center for professional development is hosting a health education for teachers course this week.
Participants who complete the hour-long class will receive cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.
The course will cover communicable diseases, nutrition and hygiene, as well as school health procedures.
Student medications, viruses, bacteria, fungi and blood-borne pathogens will also be on the agenda. The course, which will be held Friday afternoon from 4 to 5 p.m., will also discuss head lice, CPR, first aid and adolescence. Contact Jenny Riccoboni at jcriccoboni@scu.edu for more information.
