H1N1 vaccines available
Cowell Student Health Center is partnering with Maxim Health Services to offer a H1N1 flu vaccination clinic today from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the California Mission Room.
The clinic is for students only.
Cowell recently received a limited shipment of the 2009 H1N1 vaccine. It will be available today on a first-come first-serve basis.
While the vaccine is being provided free of charge by the Federal government today, there will be a $15 administration fee for the vaccine.
"Please be prepared for this event to be a popular one," Clinic Manager Peggie Robinson said in an e-mail Tuesday to undergraduate students.
The e-mail said that the vaccine is recommended for anyone under 24 years old. It is especially recommended for students with medical conditions, which put them at risk of medical complications from the flu.
The vaccine will also be available to students who are pregnant, living with or caring for children younger than six months of age or are health care and emergency medical services personnel.
According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, once the demand for vaccines for these target groups has been met at the local level, programs and providers should begin vaccinating everyone from ages 25 through 64 years.

MCC asks university to be "Better Than That"
Multicultural Center Director Jose Arreola e-mailed students Tuesday, announcing the screen of "Better Than That," a short documentary about the experiences of students of color at Santa Clara.
The event was held last night in the Shapell Lounge from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The documentary screening was followed by an open discussion.
Also in the e-mail, Arreola thanked students for attending last Wednesday's forum in the Saint Clare room. The room was filled past capacity as students sat on arms of already-occupied chairs. They also sat on the floor and stood shoulder-to-shoulder along the wall.
"We had an incredible turn out, with representation from many different groups on campus," Arreola said in the e-mail. "The conversation was as honest and insightful as it was difficult."
