Preliminary setting trial continued for water polo players charged with burglary

A second preliminary setting trial has been set for two Santa Clara water polo players arrested on March 17, said Rina Myers, Santa Clara District Attorney spokesperson.

Juniors Thomas Hendrickson, 20, and William Gorin, 21, were arrested on suspicion of stealing four iPods, three laptops and three to four wallets with credit cards from fellow students, then selling some of the items on Craigslist, authorities said.

After meeting for the first preliminary setting trial on Monday, the setting was continued to May 14 at 2 p.m. in Dept. 23 of the Santa Clara County Superior Court, said Myers. The charges, which include two counts of felony first degree burglary and buying, receiving, concealing or withholding stolen property for both Hendrickson and Gorin, and an additional burglary charge for Hendrickson, remain the same.

San Jose mayor to discuss his Green Vision

San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed will host the first public event in the St. Clare room on the third floor of the learning commons when he speaks about his Green Vision for Silicon Valley on Monday, April 21.

Reed, who has served as mayor since 2006, has developed a Green Vision with 10 primary goals, ranging from creating "25,000 clean tech jobs as the World Center for Clean Tech Innovation" to planting 100,000 new trees and replacing 100 percent of the city's streetlights with "smart, zero-emission lighting," according to the City of San Jose Web site.

"The Clean Technology revolution is coming," Reed wrote in the introduction to his Green Vision. "By capitalizing on the innovation that already exists in our community, we can lead the effort. In the process, we will create thousands of new jobs, grow city revenues, expand our local economy, and demonstrate how deploying clean and green technology is fiscally responsible."

The event, hosted by the Environmental Studies Institute, begins at 7 p.m.
