Fight breaks out during concert in The Bronco
A fight broke out between two females on Monday night during a rock concert in The Bronco, according to Campus Safety.
The two women, both unaffiliated with Santa Clara, told Campus Safety officers that they were "with the bands" and that they had been fighting over an unresolved issue that occurred years ago, said Director of Campus Safety Charlie Arolla.
No one was seriously injured, and neither participant in the fight decided to press charges against the other, said Arolla.
The concert, sponsored by the Santa Clara club Nova Res DIY, played to a majority non-affiliate crowd. Only 17 Santa Clara students were in attendance, along with about 50 non-affiliates, said Arolla.
Pulitzer-Prize reporter to speak on women voters
Former reporter for The New York Times Melinda Henneberger will speak next Tuesday about the 18 months she spent speaking to 234 women in 12 states about political issues that concern them the most, ranging from abortion to national security.
Henneberger published her findings in her May 2007 book, "If They Only Listened to Us: What Women Voters Want Politicians to Hear," which reveals some of the issues most important to women voters and suggests both Democratic and Republican politicians have failed to take notice of their concerns. The event, sponsored by the Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education, will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Music and Dance Facility Recital Hall.
Henneberger, a contributing editor for Commonweal Magazine, worked for The New York Times for 10 years before joining Newsweek magazine in 2003 as a contributing editor who wrote political profiles.
Prior to those positions, Henneberger worked as a reporter for the Dallas Morning News and Newsday, where her team won a Pulitzer Prize for local reporting.
Henneberger's visit is part of the Commonweal Campus Speakers Program, which brings popular Catholic writers to universities.
