Mini-market opens in larger space today
The Cellar Market is scheduled to open today, said Director of University Events and Protocol Karrie Grasser.
Doors open at 11:00 a.m.
The larger space will encompass the space of the original store, as well as the space previously used by Catering Services, which has since moved to second floor Benson.
Because the mini-market was closed for renovations during the summer and the first week of fall classes, Patio Market on the Benson Memorial Center's terrace featured a sneak peek of the new items available upon the opening of the newly expanded campus market.
The reopened Cellar Market will include products such as fresh produce, salads, fountain drinks and bulk snacks.
Malley turns 10
The Pat Malley Fitness and Recreation Center celebrated its 10th birthday with a reception on Sept.15, prior to the start of the school year.
The event, held in the Malley lobby, included light refreshments and water.
The 45,000 square foot fitness center originally opened with a firm no tank top policy.
Due to sanitation health reasons and to prevent the deterioration of the equipment, Malley visitors were instead required to wear unaltered, full-length T-shirts.
Oct. 8 marks the ten-year anniversary of the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. A late night event will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 9:00 p.m. to midnight for students who were unable to attend the Sept. 15 reception.
Details are still being finalized.
Named after famous Santa Clara football coach Pat Malley, the building's construction cost $8.8 million.
