Professor's project examines Black Power movement, anti-colonialism

Ethnic studies professor Robin Hayes will discuss her project on the Black Power movement and African anti-colonialism on Tuesday.

The presentation, titled "I Used the Term Negro and I was Firmly Corrected," marks the fifth event this February hosted by the Office for Multicultural Learning and Igwebuike in celebration of Black History Month.

Hayes' work draws on black newspapers, organizational archives and interviews with activists, as she explores encounters among the Black Panther Party, Organization of the Afro-American Unity and independence movements in Algeria, Congo, Guinea, South Africa and Tanzania. The presentation begins at 4 p.m. in the Williman Room of Benson Memorial Center.

Online service outage planned over President's Day weekend

Access to all campus technology services -- including Groupwise, PeopleSoft, ANGEL, OSCAR and ERes -- will be interrupted this weekend while the servers are physically moved from the old Information Technology data center to its new location in the Learning Commons, Technology Center and Library building.

The move begins after 9 p.m. tomorrow, and all services should be operational no later than 7 a.m. on Tuesday, stated Information Specialist Ron Danielson in a university-wide e-mail.

Most equipment should be reinstalled in the new facility and the services operational by Sunday afternoon, stated Danielson.
