Cultural club not holding 11th annual boat dance

The Asian Pacific Students Union will not hold its annual Boat Dance this year. Because the cost of renting a boat and organizing the dance was very large, APSU decided not to hold the dance this year. APSU had hosted the event for 10 consecutive years.

The Santa Clara wins national college newspaper awards

The Santa Clara was awarded the Pacemaker for its Web site, www.thesantaclara.com, this week in St. Louis at the 85th annual Associated Collegiate Press' National College Media Convention. Nine college newspaper web sites won the online Pacemaker, out of 20 nominees.

The Pacemaker award is the highest honor in college journalism, and has been awarded yearly since 1927. The online Pacemaker has been awarded since 1995.

The paper also won an honorable mention in the Best of Show competition for the Oct. 5 issue. This is the first year The Santa Clara has been nominated for the online Pacemaker award, and the third year in a row it has been nominated for the print Pacemaker.
