Policy may ban student-supervisor relationships
A university committee is considering a proposal that would prohibit romantic relationships between university-paid supervisors and those who work for them -- a policy that may include students.
For example, the policy could theoretically apply to head desk receptionists or Community Facilitators dating their employees or their residents, respectively. At the same time, policymakers are trying to define who exactly is a student employee, Vice Provost for Student Life Jeanne Rosenberger said.
Students interested in voicing their opinions to possible changes are encouraged to contact the Student Affairs Policy Committee via Associated Students.
Self-defense classes for women return to campus
Back by popular demand from last quarter, Associated Students and the Office of Student Life will be co-sponsoring self defense classes for women in the coming weeks.
The classes will be offered Feb. 19 and Feb. 26 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Women who are interested in taking the class can sign up at the Center for Student Leadership in Benson Memorial Center, room one.
An instructor from the San Jose YWCA will teach the class and will focus on self defense and self esteem. Admission is free.

Fund-raising campaign reaches $343 million
The "Campaign for Santa Clara" has raised $343 million thus far, University President Paul Locatelli, S.J., announced last week.
The campaign, which Locatelli announced in 2002, is the largest fund-raising campaign in Santa Clara history, and aims to raise money particularly for current and upcoming construction projects on campus.
Among those projects are the new "Library for the 21st Century," a new building for the Leavey School of Business and a new Jesuit Community. Current plans call for the new library to be twice the size of the current Orradre Library. Likewise, the new building for the business school will offer more than twice as much space as is currently allotted to them, and will consolidate business school classrooms, faculty offices and research facilities.
The goal of the campaign is to raise $350 million. The campaign will end on Dec. 31, 2006.
