Influential lawyer to speak as part of Black History Month

Bryan Ford, the deputy monitor under the consent decree who settled the Denny's restaurant chain discrimination case, is speaking about "Combating Discrimination in Buisness" at Santa Clara next Tuesday.

Ford, a graduate of Harvard University and the Stanford University Law School, was in charge of implementing a training program for Dennys' 50,000 employees to prevent future discrimination against African American and Latino customers.

Ford will speak on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 3:30 p.m. in the Benson Memorial Center parlors. The event is co-sponsored by the Center for Multicultural Learning and Igwebuike, as part of a series of events Igwebuike has offered through the month of February to celebrate Black History Month.

Kennedy Commons building dedication Saturday

Though the building has been open for classes and student use since the beginning of the quarter, the Kennedy Commons will be officially dedicated this weekend.

On Saturday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. there will be an open house, with a dedication ceremony taking place at 2 p.m. University President Paul Locatelli, S.J., will attend the dedication ceremony.

The Commons building is opening with much fanfare from the university for its "green" environmental features. Administrators have said that they will use this building to evaluate whether or not to continue using "green" features in future construction projects.
