Innocence project discussion at de Saisset
A panel discussion at de Saisset Museum Thursday will discuss artistic projects focused on the subject of wrongful convictions.
Moderated by Northern California Innocence Project Director Kathleen Ridolfi, the panel will include photographer Vance Jacobs, dance professor and "Barred from Life" choreographer David Popalisky, along with recently exonerated Alan Crotzer, who spent 25 years in prison on a false conviction.
The panel will reflect on their involvement in visual and performance art as a way to represent the experiences of the exonerated.
The discussion is in conjunction with two photographic exhibits on display at the de Saisset Museum, examining the wrongfully convicted. The exhibits "The Innocents" by Taryn Simon and "A Life Reclaimed" by Vance Jacobs will be on display through July 1.
Popalisky will also be discussing his May 3 performance of "Barred from Life," an original solo performance.
The performance contained original music by composer True Rosaschi, dance movement, video imagery and interviews with the exonerated, some who had been sentenced to death.
