Special elections debate at the Bronco

The Political Science Students Association, College Democrats and College Republicans will be co-sponsoring a debate on some of the controversial issues in the upcoming special election next Tuesday.

Representatives of the College Democrats and Republicans will debate propositions 73 and 75, as well as the Supreme Court nomination of Harriet Miers.

Proposition 73 would prohibit physicians from terminating a minor's pregnancy until the minor's parents have been notified for 48 hours. Proposition 75 would prohibit unions to use dues as for political contributions without member consent.

The debate will be held next Tuesday in the Bronco at 9:15 p.m.

Club meets earthquake fund-raising goal

Intandesh, Santa Clara's Indian, Pakastani, and Bangladeshi student union, has reached its goal of raising $4,000, said a group representative Wednesday night.

While they had originally only hoped to raise $4,000, their success in raising money has led them to set their goals even higher to $7,000, or one dollar for every student. A clothing drive in residence halls is also being planned

The Oct. 8 earthquake destroyed much of northern Pakistan, near the capital of Islamabad, and India's Kashmir region.

Santa Clara is not officially collecting funds due to the lack of "a readily identifiable agency in the region," University President Paul Locatelli, S.J., said.

Funds raised by Intandesh will go to Catholic Relief Services.
