Campus briefs
The Hut closed
A local bar has been closed due to a violation of state law.
A sign posted on the window of The Hut stated that the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control had suspended the alcoholic beverage license for violation of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act.
The bar issued an apology for the inconvenience and stated that the bar would reopen on April 16.
Bon Appetit trimming carbon from waistline
Bon Appetit is trying a new diet, but weight watchers may be confused. Rather than going low on calories, the on-campus food provider is cutting carbon.
The food provider hosted an interactive web conference on Wednesday to discuss the food system's growing contribution to global warming.
The "Low Carbon Diet" is part of Santa Clara Dining Services and Bon Appetit's pre-Earth Day activities, according to Melissa Reynen, marketing manager for Dining Services.
On April 22, 400 Bon Appetit cafeterias around the country will participate in "Low Carbon Diet Day," in which options like cheeseless pizza, roasted pork loin, fig chutney and salads with beets and walnuts will be served.
Menu items like this reflect an effort to reduce carbon emissions while still serving tasty food.
