By Michael Moeschler
Saturday afternoon Nate Swinton, Editor-in-Chief of The Santa Clara, was awarded the Los Angeles Times story of the year award.
Swinton wrote a feature that appeared in the May 23 edition of TSC about Dana Ewell, a former Santa Clara student who had his family murdered in order to inherit a substantial inheritance.
The reporting and writing effort took Swinton several months to complete. The feature story was originally produced for Gordon Young's Freelance Journalism class.
Swinton competed with more than 50 student journlaists from across the nation. He was awarded the honor at the annual Associated College Press conference in Orlando, Fla.
