Email notifications upon receiving mail room packages

Associated Student Government senators, under the Facilities and Operations Committee, are close to finalizing a system which would enable the Santa Clara mail room to notify students of awaiting packages via email instead of paper slips. The project, which is being undertaken by ASG's Facilities and Operations Committee, has been underway since the fall. The proposed system would eliminate the need for mail room workers to spend time hand writing slips for student mailboxes, a process that can lead to missing slips and basic organizational issues, said FOC Chair Sach Egan.

"With the proposed program, mail room workers would simply scan the package barcode and the recipient information would automatically be retrieved from the computer's database," said FOC Chair Sachit Egan. "This would then prompt an email to be sent to the students, eliminating the need for them to continually venture to the mailroom to see if their package has arrived."

The system was developed by sophomore senator Spencer Muscelli, who has been a point man on this project, along with freshman senator Ben Frazier.

Egan hopes to have the program operating on a trial basis over the summer when fewer packages are delivered, with the ultimate goal of having it fully functional by next fall.
