Engh blesses eucharist during mass of the holy spirit

It was standing room only Wednesday during the Mass of the Holy Spirit in the Mission Santa Clara de Asis.

Students and faculty alike joined together for the ceremony, which asks for God's blessing upon the university.

University President Michael Engh, S.J., began the mass by welcoming members of the university as well as members of the newly integrated Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley, which was absorbed by Santa Clara in July.

"Welcome to this place and this celebration where we ask God's blessing on Santa Clara," Engh said.

Later in the homily, Engh joked, "This is the first time the church as been overflowed in a while. There is no collection today, but there is a free lunch afterwards."

The homily included Engh discussing the importance of being a Jesuit Catholic University.

The ceremony was followed by a picnic lunch, in which Engh wore a cowboy hat while chatting with students and visitors.
