Eustachy knows how to party
By Jack Ferdon
Iowa St. basketball coach Larry Eustachy had some explaining to do this week when a newspaper reported that he attended a student party at the University of Missouri after a game this season. Photos taken at the party showed Eustachy drinking Natural Light and smooching girls who appeared to be a little overweight. He blamed this on "bad judgment."
Also, a co-ed at Kansas St. claims that the coach was hitting on her during a party there in 2002.
Eustachy was in town on a recruiting trip this week and talked with The Santa Clara about the controversy.
TSC: Why do you feel the need to party with college kids after you coach a road game?
Larry: Because I need to relax. And there is nothing more relaxing than getting into a hot tub full of the opposing team's cheerleaders.
TSC: What if you can't find a party?
Larry: Well, I like whore-mongering as much as the next guy, but if that's not happening I enjoy self-asphyxiation.
TSC: What do you do after a home game?
Larry: I usually watch "7th Heaven" with my family. Then I go out and snort a few lines.
TSC: What do you think of the parties at Santa Clara?
Larry: There's not enough bondage.
TSC: Did you ever party with Marcus Fizer, your former player and current Chicago Bull?
Larry: Aw, he's a lightweight. We were at this beer bath one time and I saw this double amputee chick. I said to Fizer, "Let's get that legless girl drunk and see what happens." He said, "No, coach. That's wrong." There's a word for that -insubordination.
TSC: Do you have any regrets?
Larry: Yes. I wish I made my wife sign a prenuptial agreement before we got married.
