Freshman guard returns home

Former Santa Clara guard James Rahon has officially committed to play basketball for the San Diego State Aztecs next season. Rahon had been looking for a new school since his decision to transfer became official in March, despite a successful freshman campaign as a Bronco where he averaged 27 minutes and 11.3 points per game.

"We are very excited that James Rahon will be a San Diego State student-athlete effective this fall," said San Diego State head coach Steve Fisher through a press release posted on the school's athletic website last Thursday. "He will be a very good addition to our program."

A graduate of Torrey Pines High School near San Diego, Rahon admitted that proximity to home played a large part is his decision to transfer to San Diego State.

"The hometown factor was big for me," said Rahon. "I really took that into consideration. I just thought it would be really cool for my parents and all my friends to see all my games."

After his initial decision to transfer, Rahon was contacted by a number of other schools who showed interest, most notably Georgetown, Notre Dame, Texas and UC Berkeley. After a potential visit to Georgetown fell through the cracks when another player committed first, the decision to become an Aztec was an easy one, said Rahon.

"I just already had my mind set up that I wanted to go to San Diego State," said Rahon. "I didn't really need any other visits."
