Frolf for good weekend fun
By Maryann Dakkak
Take alcohol, beaches, music, beautiful people and a couple days with no class and what do you get? An optimal college weekend.
So my weekend started out a little slow. By Friday night the week had worn me out (with the help of my 6:30 a.m. workout fitness class at Malley, which is fantastic by the way).
But on Saturday, I was ready to go. First I was told we were leaving for the beach at 3 p.m., so I was waiting around, but then I found out that a certain someone we'll call Dave would be two hours late, so I grabbed my cell phone and hit the streets.
At around 3:15 p.m., I wandered to a house I know well, the much visited Pike house. And they've done it again. Their day-party on Saturday was definitely the place to be. Some people had gone all out and were clad in black and white to celebrate the theme: Alcatraz. There were black bars surrounding the DJ's and the entrance itself. The music was again sensational, the tone was a little drunker than usual, which only lead to a crazier time.
Pike parties seem to create a happy place. Everyone was having a good time. There was a fight at one point, but it was broken up pretty quickly and everyone partied on. But I left before the end.
At around 6 p.m., I got the call I'd been waiting for. And off to the beach I went with three of my friends. We parked in an abandoned lot, walked with all our stuff for about 10 minutes and set up camp on the sand. We made our fire and sat up for about four hours talking, sharing crazy stories and scaring each other with our attractive imaginations.
After the fire went out, we all climbed into our sleeping bags right out on the sand and steam rolled each other for five minutes to warm each other up. We woke up at 9 a.m. the next morning to a blue sky, warm sand and the waves lapping about five yards away. Talk about beautiful.
The rest of the morning we climbed rocks, walked on the beach then went frolfing (frisbee-golfing). This little-known sport has definitely become one of my top three. Except that my talent lies in missing the target and hitting innocent bystanders (sorry Sam).
At 3 p.m. we ended up back at school. My incredible weekend was sadly coming to an end. But hey, there's a weekend every week right?
So get yourself off campus; go to the beach, and if you're feeling really adventurous, take up frolfing.
