Get a taste of Henry's World Famous High life
Do not be alarmed. At first glance, this dilapidated building (built in 1882) looks like anything but the place to go for the best steaks in San Jose. A favorite to ravenous Sharks fans and meat lovers alike, Henry's World Famous High Life boasts the decor of an old saloon, a beer selection for champions, and a lone menu carved into a wooden slab nailed to the wall: the ultimate dive bar experience. Upon your arrival, you are offered a number from a box on the door jamb and moments later, a waitress will ask you for your order. You are seated when your food is ready.
There is not much in the way of choice, but people here are not interested in frills, they are interested in beef. The rack of ribs (half or full) are to die for, the chicken is equally as succulent, and the New York is my favorite, not too much gristle. The average price of an entree is $17.50 and this includes a small salad (get it with ranch) and a 16 oz. baked potato smeared with a garlic/chive butter (unbelievable). There is no dessert menu, but this is not needed. The proportions at Henry's are not for the weak of heartâ€" undo that top button. If you are looking for trendy and posh, then this is not the place for you. However, the atmosphere is quirky and the food is fantastic. So belly up to the bar, order a brew and wait for your New York.
