Intandesh bridges past and present
The Rangeeli Shaam cultural show kicked off the lineup of student cultural shows -- it featured Indian culture as presented through the eyes of the younger generation.
The April 9 show reflected the humored Indian tradition of parental pressure for arranged marriages.
As a student-run event it featured all students as the main cast.
In the mix of the dialogues, there was a variety of dances performed, ranging from a classical piece to the more modern style of Bollywood and a fashion show, which brought intermission to an end.
In addition to the classical and Bollywood dances, traditional folk dances from Gujrat and Punjab were performed, lighting up the stage with bright colors and energetic dancing.
On average, performers for each dance practiced about three hours a week, beginning in January, with hours extending as the show neared closer to opening night. In order to raise money for the show, Intandesh sold samosas in Benson, which brought in extra money for costumes and other fees.
The festivities were continued at the Bronco, where the quarterly Bronco Bhangra was held for everyone to celebrate the accomplishments and success of the show.
In the upcoming weeks, other cultural shows will also be taking the stage. Additionally, the annual Global Village event will be hitting Market St. this Sunday from 12-5 p.m.
