Letter to the Student Body: The Green Team
By The Green Time
Dear Students,
If you're a person trying to help the earth, we want to let you know: you're not the only one. In an elementary school near you, there is a devoted group of fourth and fifth graders trying to save the earth. We are the Green Team.
Every week on Wednesday, rain or shine, we patrol Washington Open School, picking up trash and composting. Some Wednesdays, we make posters to put up, reminding people that storm drains lead to bays and such.
But it seems that the students of Santa Clara might be forgetting that.
Some Fridays get exciting and call for a party. When they do, give it your all and party, but remember the red cups. They haunt us day and night, lying in your lawns. When they do get picked up, they get thrown away and waste precious space in a landfill even though they are recyclable.
General trash is also all around, and is not pretty. Stop and think for a second, if some stranger came here, would you want their first impression to be, "Wow, this place is a mess." No, you don't. That is not the neighborhood we want.
This is your neighborhood as well as ours. We need your help. You can make a difference. We can join gloved hands and trash bags. We can make the neighborhood that we want. So now, consider all you've just learned. Consider helping us. Consider saving our planet.
