TSC points out unknown extent of AS efforts

Thank you so much for publishing the article, "AS responsible for more than meets the eye [May 8]." It accurately represents some of what AS [Associated Students] has been working on this year. We are left with the question, "why does AS go unnoticed despite all of our measures?" It is difficult to understand this, considering our efforts to increase student awareness. We distribute newsletters and Benson reminders to inform students of current issues, events, and projects. There are weekly senate meetings that include executive, class, and committee updates to express what is going on within AS. Senators hold their office hours outside of Market Square to increase the accessibility of AS. However, these actions are not enough to reach the entire Santa Clara community.

What can you do to find out what is happening with AS? Come to senate meetings! They are every Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in the Benson Parlors. Look for the AS newsletter (it will be in Benson and residence halls by next week) or stop by AS. We are located in the basement of Benson, room one (on the opposite end from the post office). The chat board on DogEars (http://scu.dogears.net)is also a great way to contact us.

Next year, AS will strive to make itself more visible while also reinforcing its purpose as the student voice. More and more officers will hold their office hours on the main floor of Benson. We will also continue to facilitate the idea that you can walk up to any AS member to chat, tell us what you really think about an issue, etc. Always feel free to contact any of us and let us know what we can do for you. Remember, "It's Your AS!"
