Vagina Monologues has not 'run its course'

First, let me start by stating that I truly respect University President Paul Locatelli, S.J., and all he has done for Santa Clara in his 20 years as president.

However, I cannot understand his belief that The Vagina Monologues has "run its course." The slogan for V-Day and The Vagina Monologues is "until the violence stops."

This means until rape is no longer a technique of war, until girls no longer suffer genital mutilation, until women are no longer beaten or killed for being raped, until acid is longer used to disfigure a woman's face because she wounded a man's pride, until honor killings are things of the past and until the daily violence perpetrated against women ends, The Vagina Monologues should, no, must be performed. My point is this: The Vagina Monologues has not "run its course." And all I can hope is that I live to see the day when it has.
