Bush-inspired Christmas
To the editor:
In our returning days I thought I might share with my peers my experience from winter break. Emboldened by the great spending of President Bush, my parents decided to adopt his fiscal policies and, let me tell you, I reaped the benefits.
Usually my parents celebrate Christmas with financial responsibility but this year was different: immaculate ice sculptures, $100 bottles of wine, and live concerts by artists like Bruce Springsteen and the Dixie Chicks highlighted our parties.
In addition, mom and dad gave me new cashmere socks, crocodile skin shoes, diamond encrusted sweaters, an iPod and an iPod mini (the U2 version), as well as a new Hummer H2 (my Mom chose this over a BMW because it is heavy enough to receive Bush's SUV tax write-off through her business).
Keeping in spirit with Bush tax breaks, my parents decided to pay my sister's car and health insurance for this year. However, they did not give these breaks to me because I don't make as much money as her. Oh well, to the rich go the riches.
The only downside to this spending episode is that, beyond the live concert my Dad performed ("Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer" on the piano), my parents couldn't afford any of it. That's OK though, they've taken out loans in my name and my sister's name -- we'll pay them off sometime.
Come to think of it, I don't see why all parents haven't adopted the Bush policy.
Spend now, your children will pay later.
