Not fine by me

Gay? Fine by me. Giving a female, dressed-male student the "drag king name" Jesus in front of the entire audience at the Drag Show -- not fine by me. They crossed the line. I was more than offended; I was hurt. In a community that is vocal about creating a safe space, I feel like that safe space was violated. I felt neither safe nor respected. I felt invisible.

The Safe Space Santa Clara Web site says, "creating a safe environment for all students is the concern of the entire university," and I believe it is. Have we ventured so far in our pursuit to foster this "safe place" that it leaves others feeling unsafe? I really hope not.
