Shuttle should run only at end of quarter
To the editor:
I second the opinions in your editorial last week, "Shuttle wastes money." I have yet to meet a faculty member who understands the rationale for such a shuttle service, even though it's well-meaning. I think that the money would be much better spent for providing a similar shuttle service to the Santa Clara Transit Center but just at the end of each quarter. This would encourage those who are traveling with luggage to take either the No. 10 bus to the San Jose airport, or Caltrain and BART to the San Francisco airport.
The No. 10 bus takes 20 minutes or less to get from the Caltrain station to the San Jose airport. Moreover, it runs every 15 minutes throughout the day, is free, and even has special luggage racks for airport travelers. I've never seen it even close to full, although it does pick up some airport employees en route. I plan to use it for both my Thanksgiving and Christmas plane trips.
Small, easy-to-carry No. 10 schedules are available at the Benson information desk. Try it this weekend; you won't have to worry about missing your flight, and you'll be "EC" (environmentally or ecologically correct)!

Cartoon unnecessarily harsh, irrelevant
To the editor:
I am writing in regards to Landis Lau's cartoon in the Nov. 10 edition of The Santa Clara. Landis was criticizing the video quality of the Associated Students televised meeting. I know that AS is often the butt of his criticisms, but this low blow seemed only to promote a personal vendetta rather than comment on an issue pertinent to the student body.
This is mere speculation, but I would suppose that Landis Lau would have given just as harsh a criticism for university money being spent on professional equipment and editing to improve the quality of the telecast. I understand the value of these often critical cartoons in providing a balance of opinion, and the local student government is an obvious target that may need a candid response.
However, for some issue as inane as this last one, Landis Lau and the editors might consider publishing a more relevant piece, perhaps commenting on a matter like California's special election.
