Gratitude for Live OneWorld recognition

I was so happy to see an article regarding Live OneWorld Magazine on the front page of last week's issue.

Thank you. I just wanted to clarify that the support of Campus Ministry is the reason that Live OneWorld is possible each year. They have housed, funded and supported each publication. Though we do struggle at times to find funding every year, I know that the publication would not even occur without their support.

Regretfully, we omitted a formal Thank You to Campus Ministry and to our beloved adviser, Matt Smith, who thanklessly spent hours helping us and guiding the editors through the publication process.

We are proud of this year's issue, and looking forward to seeing what happens with our proposal to become a Chartered Student Organization.

Glass ceiling cripples careers in church

Anna Woelfel's excellent op-ed, "Glass ceiling still strong in Church," brought up the significant challenges for women in the Roman Catholic Church who find the door to ordination as priests still closed.

As an ordained minister in a Protestant tradition, I can say that ordination is not the only glass ceiling women face in the Christian Church, be they Catholic, Protestant or Orthodox.

In my own denomination (the Presbyterian Church [U.S.A.]),women often still serve as associates rather than senior pastors, are paid less than their male colleagues and are frequently relegated to youth and children's education or family ministries instead of administrative or supervisory positions.

The inequality of women in the church continues to be a source of pain for many whose gifts for ministry are not fully recognized, and is a loss for the church as a whole.

On the positive side, SCU is blessed to have on its faculty and staff a number of women who have been ordained by their Christian churches.

In addition, many other women, including female campus and resident ministers, faithfully serve our campus even as women overall still await full participation in ordained ministry.
