Locatelli speaks at convocation

By Michael Moeschler

Santa Clara President Paul Locatelli, S.J., addressed the university community last week, highlighting new goals for the school, students and faculty.

Noting that the lack of economic stability has limited the world's progress towards peace, Locatelli told his audience that "the new world order needs to be fixed and education must play a central role in this process."

Speaking to an audience of approximately 900 students, faculty and staff, Locatelli told students that the goal of a Santa Clara education is "to inspire you to make the world more humane, more just and more peaceful."

Locatelli also spoke about the increasingly important role that globalization plays in university life. "The new era of globalization demands that universities change their goals in education," said Locatelli.

Locatelli asked the audience to become "global citizens, people who accept the challenge of the global common good and work to overcome what threatens it."
