Mission hosting free concert from Salvadoran composer
By TSC Staff
The Santa Clara Mission Church will be hosting the concert An Evening of Song and Story featuring "Misa Popular Salvadorena" tonight at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public, with an RSVP available on the Santa Clara website.
Salvadoran composer, Guillermo Cuellar, who was commissioned by Archbishop Oscar Romero to write "Misa Popular Salvadoreña" will be featured in the concert.
The song was written during the Archbishop's lifetime and serves as a symbol for life, the struggle for human rights, and was a cry against the brutal repression that killed tens of thousands of people in small countries, including El Salvador.
This repression was not only against the people of El Salvador but against the Church as well, as many priests and religious leaders were murdered in the process. It serves to fight against division amongst individuals and nations and spread the hope that comes through God's word and teachings.
