Ozomatli returns to rock the scene
By Natalie Calderon
Ozomatli is back and better than ever. Once considered a "sound from the underground," Ozomatli made musical history when the hit "Cumbia de los muertos" appeared on the Never Been Kissed soundtrack in 1999. Remember the Southern California band when they performed in the movie Never Been Kissed at the club where Drew Barrymore does her silly dance with the feather boa? That was Ozomatli on stage, jamming to "Cumbia de los muertos," the song that flung them into fame. Their debut album featured "Cumbia de los muertos" as well as a number of other hip-hop, salsa and funk jams. Known for their ability to combine rap with salsa, English with Spanish and funk with jazz, Ozomatli has gained the following of many a loyal fan -- including myself. "I like this funky Spanish beat," I recall saying when first hearing the band. I purchased their first album and fell in love. After seeing them in concert, I decided: Ozomatli rocks. Embrace the Chaos is Ozomatli's new album. Featuring eleven booty-shaking songs, Ozomatli has managed to wow their fans once again with fresh new lyrics and music. Maintaining their smooth style, Ozomatli has created yet another "play it and play it again" album. With instruments such as the saxophone, electrical and acoustic guitars, trumpet, drums and bongos, the group rocks away to "Pa Lante," "Guerrillero," and "Timido," a few of my favorite songs. If you're looking for a spicy, diverse sound, Ozomatli is a band you don't want to miss! A
