Santa Clara scores high on Sustainability Report Card

Santa Clara's sustainability policy emphasizes environmental stewardship, education, and service. Led by a full-time sustainability coordinator, Lindsey Cromwell, the Office of Sustainability was created in 2008 and works with the Sustainability Council to implement and oversee sustainability initiatives on campus.

According to The College Sustainability Report Card, the university has committed to reduce its emissions to 20 percent below 1997 levels by 2010 in partnership with Sustainable Silicon Valley. The university has installed 50 kilowatts of photovoltaic panels and also has solar thermal systems on the rooftops of four campus buildings: The Benson center, the Locatelli Center, Kennedy Commons, and Engineering Center. Santa Clara has purchased 22,512 megawatt-hours of renewable energy credits, mostly from wind farms, representing 73.8 percent of its total electricity consumption.
