Santa Clara's 'book
By Albert Qian
Like many people, one of the first things I do every morning is log onto Facebook. After approving friend requests and acknowledging event invites, I head on over to harvest my crops on Farmville, "like" my friend's posts and drop comments on a few. I share a couple of news items with my commentary, all while relating to friends who have midterms and papers to write. In some ways, my social networking is as integral a part of my breakfast routine as the apple and cereal I have in front of my laptop. Also, part of my daily routine is maintaining the Santa Clara University Facebook page. From status updates to the latest article on campus events, I get to interact with prospective students, current students and alumni. It's always fun to share experiences with this diverse audience that you and I have daily, like the Last Lecture, organized by the Activities Programming Board, or the Christmas Concert, performed each December in the Mission Church.
Facebook is a connector in so many ways. From letting me interact with my network to making the online experience an informative one for fellow Broncos, it allows me to utilize the internet in exciting ways. As one of Santa Clara's Facebook administrators, I feel a sense of happiness when I see that a current student "likes" a post about stocking stuffers, or when a nostalgic alumnus comments to share their memories as a Bronco. Their participation makes me swell with pride and reaffirms my love for and belief in this university.
So the next time you are on Facebook, head on over to the Santa Clara University fan page. There are so many great stories that come out of this university and so many events that one can partake in that you're bound to find something to relate with when you visit the Santa Clara Facebook page. In between that bingo on Lexulous or finding your photo of the day, you might just make some new friends or find your favorite club.
