SCENE SPOTLIGHT

In order to combat what she felt was a mundane and rather boring experience at Santa Clara, Vanisha Price decided to get involved in a number of activities that she felt would enhance her time, and the experiences of others, at Santa Clara University.

A junior Finance major, Price is involved and dedicated to organizations on campus that she feels directly benefit and support minority students on campus. The first of these is the Multicultural Center, where she is an at-large on the Executive Council/Programming Board. Price, along with 10 other at-large members, brings in outside student perspective to the Multicultural Center. Currently, Price is a member of the performance committee for MCC's Annual Global Village celebration on April 4. Since being on the board, Price says, "I'm definitely more open-minded. Being on the board has taught me how to work with different people of different backgrounds. I've also been made aware of issues that students on campus are facing today."

Another facet of campus life that Price is involved in is Igwebuike, Santa Clara's Black Student Union. She has held a leadership position in the past as well as served on various committees. Price feels "Igwe has definitely made me a better leader. I feel like it's my responsibility now to promote awareness of African American heritage and to "enhance a better understanding of culture".

Through her activities with the MCC, Price has made an impact and a difference for minority students on campus. But she is also interested in helping the greater student body and addressing problems and issues that she feels are a serious concern for women everywhere.

"I'm tentatively attempting to put on some sort of program or talk about the sexual health of women. I feel like it's an issue that needs to be addressed and dealt with because, at the end of the day, people just aren't informed and that definitely is a problem."

Price, is looking to do this in conjunction with Casa facilitators and the staff at Malley, and is hoping that all the details will be together by spring quarter.
