Selsky set on leaving for Dayton

Redshirt freshman Samantha Selsky has announced that she will transfer from Santa Clara.

Selsky's position on the team as a setter is crucial in the game of volleyball. Although Selsky experienced a decent amount of time on the court last fall, she was uncertain of what lay ahead for her in the future.

"I don't think I'll be given a chance to compete (at Santa Clara)," said Selsky.

She realized she was prepared for change after playing beach volleyball and meeting her future teammates at the University of Dayton.

"She explored things and found an opportunity for herself that she thought would be better," said Head Coach Jon Wallace.

According to Selsky, if Dayton had fallen through, the University of Miami and University of Arizona -- which her brother attends í-- were next on the list. Dayton is ranked No. 24 in the nation.

"We laid a lot of things on the table on what would be best for her," said Wallace, who remains in contact with Selsky.

Selksy mentioned that she will miss her fellow teammates and the pre-game dance parties they had in the locker room. However, she was less enthusiastic about her experience of the game of volleyball at Santa Clara.

"I didn't really get a lot of time on the court, so I don't really know what I'd miss out there," said Selsky.

In most NCAA sports, a transfer must sit out a year before competing, but volleyball is not constricted by this rule. Selsky will therefore be able to step right onto the court next fall.

Santa Clara's volleyball team travels to Seattle this weekend to play alongside the University of Washington.
