Slideshow: Images 2011
By Kaveri Gyanendra and Michael Erkelens
Last weekend, the theater and dance department of Santa Clara held their annual Images performance in the Louis B. Mayer Theatre. This performance was directed by Chellana Dinsmore, and featured various pieces that were choreographed by both Santa Clara faculty and students.
The show featured eight dances, each with various themes and a variety of songs, ranging from "The Girl from Ipanema" to "The Stepford Wife Suite" in a single dance.
The last dance, entitled "Battle the noise, it is YOUR story" included just under 30 dancers dancing to the upbeat music mix of "Outta Your Mind" by Lil' Jon, "Hold my Hand" and "Scream" by Michael Jackson, "Not Myself Tonight" and "Lift Me Up" by Christina Aguilera and "Secrets" by OneRepublic.
Director and choreographer Chellana Dinsmore offered words of encouragement in the program.
"I want to encourage us all as dancers, performers and artists, to share more of ourselves through our craft," she said. "As dancers, our bodies are our instrument--and as we work to fine-tune our technique, we want to add breath and breadth to our music--to fill it with life, our life, our story."
