Santa Clara sophomore Peter Feldsine, 19, died Sunday night after he collapsed outside the Campisi residence hall's main entrance. Feldsine's death was due to natural causes according to an e-mail sent out Monday morning to the campus community by Santa Clara President Michael Engh, S.J.
"The entire Santa Clara community extends our thoughts and prayers to Peter's family and friends," said Engh in his e-mail.
Feldsine was found lying outside the west entrance of Campisi Hall by a fellow student who contacted Campus Safety, said Vice Provost for Student Life Jeanne Rosenberger. Campus Safety and Santa Clara EMTs responded to the call and also contacted the Santa Clara Fire and Police Departments, she said.
Responders provided medical assistance to Feldsine for nearly 30 minutes before he was transported to O'Connor Hospital where he was pronounced dead by doctors, said Rosenberger.
Details regarding memorial services for Feldsine will most likely come later this week, according to Engh. The sophomore from Mercer Island, WA, was a member of the Communitas Residential Learning Community and lived in Campisi Hall.
"We as a community are deeply saddened about our loss of a son, brother, friend, and community member," said Communitas Resident Director Brandon Farmer to community members through e-mail . "Words cannot express the hurt we feel for those close to Peter."
Communitas will be hosting an "Evening of Togetherness and Support" in honor of Feldsine on Wednesday night where community members will have a place to "be in togetherness or solidarity," said Farmer.
A section of the west entrance of Campisi Hall has been designated for a memorial to Feldsine where students have placed flowers and notes in his honor. All students are invited to leave offerings at the space in Feldsine's memory.
