Stabbing suspect arrested

An 18-year-old male was arrested early Saturday morning for the armed robbery of four Santa Clara students, during which he was also determined responsible for the stabbing of Santa Clara student John Bryant last month, according to the Santa Clara Police Department.
Jose Domingo Segovia is a Santa Clara resident, but not a student at any local school, police said.
A group of Santa Clara students was sitting on a porch at around 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 4 when they were approached by Segovia and two other suspects, according Lt. Mike Sellers of the Santa Clara Police Department.
"Three suspects came up at knife point and took personal property and fled in a vehicle chase," Sellers wrote in an e-mail. Officers then located the vehicle, a 2002 gold Hyundai, and arrested all three suspects, according to the Santa Clara Police report.
During the robbery investigation, it was determined that Segovia was responsible for the Sept. 27 assault of Bryant, said Sellers.
"The case is being investigated by the District Attorney's office. I don't know much about it. I am unable to talk about how evidence was found," said Sellers in an e-mail.
Bryant, the returning center for the men's basketball team, sustained several injuries from the stabbings.
Michelle Schmitt, director of athletic media relations, said in an e-mail that Bryant has not missed any classes and has been at all team meetings.
"He will be on the court ready for a full team practice when the team starts on Friday, Oct. 17 with their first official team practice," Schmitt said in an e-mail.
Sellers said there has been an overwhelming increase in thefts that occur during parties and after parties. In an e-mail, he stressed keeping doors locked.
The second and third suspects in both incidents are still being investigated, police said.
Anyone with information about the suspects is encouraged to call Detective Sgt. Dan Moreno at (408) 615-4813.
